The Thane district court Maharashtra on 15th April,2023 Saturday granted permanent exemption to former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi from appearing before court in a defamation case filed against him in 2014 by a RSS functionary.
A local Rashtriya Sawyamsevak Sangh functionary had filed a complaint on 2014, nine years ago following a speech in which the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had allegedly accused the RSS of being responsible for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.
Bhiwandi First Class Judicial Magistrate Laxmikant Wadikar, who heard Rahul Gandhi’s application filed through his counsel Narayan Iyer, passed the order of permanent exemption on the condition that the Rahul Gandhi would remain present in court as and when directed.
